Terrence M. DeFranco, Chief Executive Officer
Terrence DeFranco is Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Arkados Group, Inc. Mr. DeFranco is also the Managing Member of Gary Lee Company, LLC, a corporate consulting firm focused on providing strategic advisory services to boards of directors of public companies. Previously, Mr. DeFranco was CEO of Edentify, Inc., an identity management software company. His background is primarily in the area of corporate finance, management and capital raising, previously serving as head of investment banking for Baird, Patrick & Co., Inc., a 70-year old NYSE Member firm and head of investment banking and founding partner of Burlington Securities Corp., a New York based investment banking and institutional equity trading firm. Mr. DeFranco began his career on Wall Street in 1991 with UBS . Mr. DeFranco has been an active principal investor, senior manager and advisor to many early-stage companies and has extensive experience in dealing with issues related to the management, operations and corporate development of startup and middle market public and private companies. Mr. DeFranco is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a BA in Economics and currently serves on other corporate and non-profit boards and committees.
Patrick Hassell, President SolBright Energy Solutions
Patrick Hassell is the President of Solbright Energy Solutions. Mr. Hassell is also the General Manager of SRE Holdings, LLC. Previously, Mr. Hassell was the co-founder and Manager of SolBright Renewable Energy, LLC prior to our purchase of the SolBright Assets on May 1, 2017. Prior to founding SolBright, Mr. Hassell served as President and CEO of Akrometrix, LLC (Atlanta, GA) from April 2003 through July 2008, growing the business over 500% during his tenure. Mr. Hassell is a former employee of the Advanced Technology Development Center (ATDC) at the Georgia Institute of Technology, a nationally recognized science and technology company incubator, where he was responsible for business plan evaluations focusing on technical feasibility and market viability. Mr. Hassel has a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Virginia and a Master’s of Science in Management from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
Cem Alptekin, Chief Operations Officer
Cem Alptekin is the Chief Operations Officer for Solbright Group, Inc. Mr. Alptekin brings to the team over 28 years of engineering and management experience working in utility, construction, and energy service sectors. Mr. Alptekin’s career began at Keyspan Energy, Inc. in the late 1980s. From 1989 to 1997, Mr. Alptekin rose through the ranks to Supervising Engineer responsible for managing Red Hook, Brooklyn Gas Distribution Operations including contractor and union employees, new customer installations, and capital construction. Mr. Alptekin went on to successfully found three companies: Preferred World Markets, Inc., an international trading company; Stone Direct, a residential and commercial construction company; and his latest venture, MyGrid Energy, Inc. an energy Service Company servicing the territories of National Grid and Con Edison, which he sold to CCI Energy Solutions, LLC in January 2013. Following the sale, Mr. Alptekin joined CCI Energy Solutions as Director of Engineering responsible for all aspects of engineering, design and analysis for projects which include Combined Cooling, Heat and Power (CCHP), battery storage, commercial boiler replacement and conversion to natural gas, utility and HVAC infrastructure. Mr. Alptekin holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Lehigh University and was one of two students awarded the Eastman Kodak Scholarship.
Mike Davies, SVP, Analytics and IoT
Mike Davies, CFA, is currently Chief Strategy Officer of Arkados Energy Solutions. Mr. Davies is a proven and skilled analyst and business strategist with over two decades of experience in financial and data analysis and 8 years of experience applying it to the energy sector through his firm, Green Econometrics. Mr. Davies has applied his skills to formulating energy efficiency strategies for commercial and municipal organizations, helping glean more useful insights from data gathered through sensing capabilities. Examples of Mr. Davies’ success include creating a proposal on behalf of NJ DOT that led to a $3 million award from the Department of Energy for a lighting retrofit, and providing the research and analysis for the first deployment of LED lighting in the Lincoln Tunnel for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. From 1993 to 2007, Mr. Davies was a research analyst covering technology, software and semiconductor companies for various firms including Punk Ziegel, Ladenberg Thalmann and Investec. Mr. Davies has published numerous reports and articles on advanced analytics, holds a BA in Economics from Columbia University, an MBA from University of California and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
